JAMIE BOLAND ROUND TWO

Steel Blue WA Superbike State Championship Round 2
26th June 2010 – Sunday
Jamie Boland

Round 2 of the Superbike State Championship started with a Friday afternoon practice to get a couple of things sorted out on my bike (GSXR 1000 – K8) after round 1 I still needed to change settings for the Pirelli tyres which I am going to run with for the rest of the year, changing tyres from Dunlop to Pirelli changed the way my bike handled a lot.  Friday practice was beneficial my bike is now 80% sorted.

Sunday started with 2 practice sessions and racing commenced after lunch – which was 3 x 8 lap races.  The 1st race I started from row 2, 5th on the grid, after putting a brand new set of tyres on for race 1 I got a good start took it easy for the 1st couple to laps to see how the tyres would handle. There was a group of 4 riders battling it out for the top 3 placings (ultimately 1st place)  Cameron Keevers was leading after 3 laps, I knew I had to try and stick with whoever was at the front, I managed to get into second place, after a free for all between 3 of us for 2nd  place, and get a good size gap from 3rd place but just couldn’t catch 1st place.  Cameron Keevers finished 1st with me 2nd and Cameron Stronach 3rd. Cameron Keevers was given a 15 second penalty for passing under yellow flag making the final result for Race 1 – me 1st, Cameron Stronach 2nd and Cameron Keevers finishing 3rd.

On to Race 2, I started from pole position and gained the hole shot, my lead was short lived, I was passed for 1st place, I sat in 2nd place, 4 laps in and I ran wide in the basin which lost me ground on  1st place, by the last lap I caught up to 1st place but just couldn’t get past on the straight to the line.  Race 2 resulted in 1st Cameron Keevers, 2nd me and 3rd Ben Henry.

Race 3 the final for the day, I started front row 2nd on the grid I definitely thought I would be able to win the last race of the day after an ok start I was in 2nd place I was sitting behind 1st place for a couple of laps I made a mistake at the end of the straight my bike didn’t go into gear, it went between gears and by the time it did select a gear I was going too quick and locked up the back wheel, I couldn’t stop for the corner, ran on to the dirt and laid it on the side I picked up my bike and got going again the first 4 riders came around to lap me I let pass and then I finished the race hoping to get at least 1 point.
I can’t wait for the next rounds, now my bike is pretty much sorted and I am chasing race wins.
I would like to thank all my sponsors – Trakdayz, Weld West, Joondalup Motorcycles, Dyno Time and my pit crew Trevor Adams and Chris Gailbraith.
