Coming into the first event of the year i was confident of a good result to start the year even though I had little practice time on the new Honda CBR 1000 due to a hand injury a couple of weeks before.
Qualifying on Saturday went really well and I managed to score second position on the grid for Sunday's best of 3 races. I can say it was difficult riding with the broken bone in my hand and it was affecting me in the hard braking corners when my weight transferred forwards.
In race 1 I got a great start and lead for the first 4 laps until I made a mistake coming out of the last turn which gave the 2 riders behind me a chance to pass. Once they did get past I just couldn't pull the bike around how I liked and had to settle for a good 3rd place.
Races 2 & 3 were very similar with me finishing both of these races in 3rd place. We were definitely down on horsepower compared to the front 2 guys as they would pull 3 to 4 bike lengths on me down the straight which really made it hard to get close enough again in the corners. Full credit to Ben Henry and Ben Stronach for riding very well - they have set a good standard!!!
However for round 2 on June 27th our engine will be a lot faster with it currently being in Melbourne with a top engine builder who will really give us a super fast bike for the rest of the year! Also some new suspension is coming so I think come next time I'll be 100% fit and ready to take some race wins!
